The Light is You!
In my writing, I share stories from my life and explore how putting my work out into the world changed me.
When we experience pain, people will often tell us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Writing has taught me that there is a lot of light inside the tunnel as well.
In my writing, I am shouting down a dark tunnel.
“There is no light at the end!” I am screaming. “The light is you!”
The light is you.

ALL WE HAVE LEFT, in Quarter After Eight (Vol. 28, 2022),
“The light is different in Ohio, I don’t know if you know that, but it is.”

“Of course, now I am tempted again to reach a hand out to you,
To cut though the chaos, the fear,
And orchestrate one more misguided attempt to hear the words,
“It will be ok.”

BEADS THAT SPEAK, in Krannert Art Museum Collection (2017)
“Because the relationship between generations of women is so deeply significant to the process of making these garments, ideas of what it means to be a woman in Ndebele culture, and who a person is in the social network of their community are literally and figuratively woven into the designs of these garments.”
